Moving Crates Vs Cardboard Boxes

Moving crates are plastic stackable crates that you can rent for your move.
They come in many sizes (even a wardrobe size) and are a lot easier to handle than cardboard and much less messy.

Many large companies are converting to using these crates for their company moves as it saves them tons of money, but you can also use them for your own personal household move. Since you can rent them, you won't have to worry about storing a bunch of crates and, best of all, you can have them delivered and picked up!

Moving crates have several advantages over cardboard.

  • Crushproof - They won't crush like cardboard will if something heavy is put on top of it.
  • Stackable - They are made to fit on on top of the other. This means you can neatly stack them without fear of the stack falling over. This also saves you room in the moving truck.
  • Security - Moving crates are lockable so you can secure your valuables inside
  • Easy to Handle - Molded handles on the sides make the crates easier to pick up than flat cardboard boxes.
  • Less Mess - When you are done with the crates, simply call to have them picked up. Cardboard boxes need to be broken down, taken to the dump or stored away for later use. Too much work!

Moving crates are made from 100% recyclable high density polypropylene so they are environment friendly. You can even get a special dolly that you can stack them on which will help move them out and you can have them delivered on 24 hours notice.

Some tips when packing with moving crates:

  • Always label the crate as to which room it goes in and a basic list of contents. This will make unpacking a lot easier
  • Use packing materials such as newsprint and bubble wrap to protect your items inside the crate
  • Don't overload the crate - you should be able to pick it up easily and the lid should be able to close and not "tent" open so you can stack them.
