Properly Loading A Packing Carton

Learning how to load a packing carton is essential to help in a smooth move - especially of you will be carrying the cartons yourself.
Moving can be a stressful time and you want to make sure that you pack properly to avoid injury to your valuable and also to yourself and your helpers!

The first thing is to make sure you have the proper size for the job. For moving your clothing and coats, there is a box with a rod inside so you can easily transfer your clothes from the closet into the box. That way everything won’t get all wrinkled and dirty. When you get to the new house, you simply transfer them out again.

Of course, these boxes can get pretty heavy so you might want to consider using some sort of dolly to move them.

When loading your packing carton, keep in mind that someone will have to lift and carry it so don't make it so heavy that they drop it or the bottom of the box collapses. If you are packing something heavy like books - use a small box. If you are packing "stuff" from drawers, sometimes it makes it easier to put each drawer into a separate box or even a tray like a soda tray inside the box. Then when you go to unpack you won't have to separate everything.

When filling a packing carton with your breakables, make sure you wrap them in newspaper, or bubble wrap individually before putting them in the box. Again, don't make the box too heavy since dropping it will surely spell disaster if there are breakables inside. You may not even want to fill the box all the way, but make sure that the top won't bow in when it is closed. Use newspaper or other filler to keep the top flat, that way you will be able to stack boxes on top of each other without them leaning or collapsing inward.

For wall art and mirrors, use a special packing carton made specifically for the task. These thin cartons allow 1 piece to be packed inside. Protect your wall art by wrapping in bubble wrap, or at the very least encase the corners in bubble wrap or cardboard. This will act as a wedge to keep the box from touching the actual piece of art or mirror.
