Tipping Movers
Tipping movers, like any other person who provides you a service, is a way to show your appreciation for the care they have taken with your items and the level of service provided, but how much is enough?

Moving is hard work and your movers have all of your possessions in your hands. It would be very easy for them to mishandle your belongings to get the job over with faster, but good movers will treat your stuff as if it was their own and for this level of service a tip should be considered.
There is no set formula for tipping movers. The amount, of course, depends on how big or small the move in addition to how well they served you.

If the movers smashed your stuff around, dropped it on the floor and banged up your walls in the process you might not want to tip them at all.
On the other hand, if they treated everything with respect and were careful not to damage your home, you may want to give them a nice thanks in the way of a tip.
Tipping movers for small moves of less than 10 items and all weighing under 20 pounds should run you in the $10 to $20 range. This is for a single mover since this amount of items should require only 1 person. If the move contains more items and furniture you may want to consider $30 or $40. If the move involves going up and down stairs, heavy appliances, long trecks from the truck to the house or is in nasty weather, consider $50.00. If there is a moving crew, there is no need to pay $40 or $50 each - you can pool the money (about $20 each depending on level of service) and give it to the supervisor to split up among them. However, since you are paying for service you may want to tip them individually since some will perform better than others. In this case, divide up what you would pay total and distribute it accordingly.
It may seem that tipping movers is an added expense that you don't need to pay since the cost of the move is so much to begin with, but remember that the people actually moving the items are only getting paid an hourly wage and your tips may well be much appreciated.
